Get OFF your butt and make some music

Well, I noticed that everyone seems to have either a)been captured by martians b)mind wiped by Pebber/CIA or c)gotten busy lately....

I DARE you guys, DARE you. CHALLENGE you to make up an original piece of music, record it as best you can with whatever you have at your disposal, and post it for us all to listen to. I dared ya.

Doesn't have to be a masterpiece. Just a riff, an idea, that uses something that you've gotten out of your PB syllabus, and maybe some improvising, you know, a solo section, whatever. Don't be shy, describe the hell out of it, let us know what you were thinking, how much you had to drink, how long since you've been out of the asylum, etc, etc.

Oh, I also dare you to do it once a week and post it here. What, you have something better to do than post music?

Thanks for listening, man! It was created as a sort of, immmm joke I suppose. Not a lot of time invested in it, just sheer fun.

lol it was my only retaliation against 1-2-3-4 type stuff. And a sort of reply to a post I saw a while ago about someone having troubles using some of the practice ideas in 'actual' musical situations. Not that what I've done is super musical, but it DOES represent a few victories since I decided to really take a close look at my picking technique. It was a fun way to blow off some musical steam!

I can't wait to hear what other people post, I love listening to tunes...

Thanks so much for the listen, man!

That's how you get good, dude. Make something up, and let people listen to it. People will then give you feedback, and that feedback might give you some different ideas. Then you make something else up, and post that, rinse repeat. I bet you are a better player than you realize. I mean, Paul Simon isn't a shredder, yet he's sold an album or two. Bruce Springsteen? Andy Summers? Miles Davis (Didn't have the same level of chops as Coltrane or parker, and yet seems to have invented MANY different types of jazz...)

"Interesting" will always trump technical, but if you can find a way to marry the two...

There are a lot of different ways to play/make music. It's not all about technical proficiency, but you know, try your best with the tools at your disposal... I can't wait to hear what you come up with.

Awesome stuff Scott! Some of it reminded me a little of the Winter Wind Chopin etude. Rock on!

Guitar Player - be brave, post some stuff. It's all cool. There's a huge variety of experience on this forum, we're not all as good as Scott and Ursin :).

Would love to participate unfortunately i can no longer play with the right hand ever since the picking challenge
have tried leaving the right arm for weeks at a time and still the minute i get back to the playing position the right arm plays up. so hard not to play.
I subscribe and thank pebber for all the help but feel at the moment i may have to give guitar up again.
been practising solidly on the drums with no pain. so getting back to drumming at the moment
sorry for hijacking the thread with bullshit

You think you practice enough.......YOU DON'T!............PRACTICE MORE! Darryn U.K

Awesome, dude! Great tone, great ideas. There's a really nice confidence to most of the playing - it just sounds really solid. There are a few places where it's clear you're stretching yourself a little, and that confidence and solidity slips somewhat. I'd concentrate on getting those licks nailed too so they're at the same level as the rest.

G'day everyone. I hope you all enjoy this. It's not quite a song yet. I call it Clumsy Variation 5 in C Major. I'm going to do some proper recordings because my phone doesn't cut the mustard. Hopefully post some (better performances) audio and video edits on a privately hosted site soon. Let us know what you think. Cheers, Aj.

Thanks for the challenge Scottulus.
Theres been some pretty good guitar playing. Apologies for the nasty sound. Its a bit rough on the timing at the moment, only started it about two hours ago and went through several different chords and variations. Hell its midnight allready.
