I just finished watching the Sightreading Basics video on Youtube and was wondering what music composing software is being used for the lesson. Anyone have an idea?

Wikipedia has a bit of info on developing tracks for Rock Band through the Rock Band Network and XNA Creators Club license http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_Band_N...thoring_process I don't know if it would lend itself to courseware development though, given the money required (both to develop and to download the songs). The article makes it sound like you'd get into an Apple AppStore situation, where they may reject songs/tutorials for unknown reasons (only songs allowed?).

Has anyone tried this book out? http://www.amazon.com/Elementary-Rudimen...m/dp/1554400112 I recently bought it and am going through it slowly. It seems very thorough, but it is pretty dry stuff. It's also more of a general music theory book rather than specific to an instrument, so I'm wondering if there is something better. I also picked up http://www.amazon.com/Solo-Guitar-Playin...l/dp/0825694000 which I've found to be quite good in terms of teaching music notation while you practice. It starts off slow but it gets to some nice solo songs. My only problem, which is more about not having a teacher currently, is about when to progress. I think that's my biggest problem in general. I get to a certain point and don't know if I should just keep going or not due to my abilities (ie. should I be able to play this song full speed, or just get consistent at a slower speed then move on?).

I just wanted to get people's thoughts on the newest wave of music games with plastic instruments. While I've never thought of them as anything more than stupid fun with friend, the latest Rock Band 3 peripherals have piqued my interest http://www.plasticaxe.com/2010/06/11/exc...-functionality/ Seems like they are making midi controllers rather than game controllers now and moving towards more realistic gameplay. I already know it won't ever replace real lessons, but perhaps it'll be a fun supplement to them. If anything the keyboard and hybrid guitar look like they will be cheap-ass (ie affordable) alternative to the more functional midi-controllers, but again it's still too early to tell (how much? how long 'till they fall apart?) What does everyone else think? Complete shit? Cool stuff? Pointless?

I hope I don't look too foolish asking this, but in one of your ScaleTone Form System videos, you mention "Chord Theory Worksheet #1", but can't seem to find it in the Lesson Downloads. Is this for students only? Thank you as always.

I've heard good things about EarMaster 5, and have been thinking about getting that one, but maybe I'll hold off a bit longer for your reviews.
