I never heard of Eric until 1 week ago and took notes from his workshop.

NOTES:
When playing you want to be proactive rather than reactive, meaning that you want the sound in your head prior to making the
movement/sound.

How you practice is more important than what you practice, he said scales are great and be sure to run through various permutations of the
scale and always play with a metronome (sound familiar?)

Practicing Slow is way more beneficial than fast, you want to BE IN CONTROL of your instrument at all times
Chick Corea practices piano super slow. Make sure you are having fun with your practicing( mixing it up etc )

Use only as much energy as needed

Eric is big on technique because it allows you better control of your instrument and allows you to get the sound you want out of your head.

When do you decide to move on after practicing a scale or anything ? When YOU feel you have it down MOVE ON

IMPROVISATION
Everyone has a different idea this is a very subjective area

Eric likes to make sure 99% of the time he is improvising that he begins and ends on a note within the chord. When transitioning to another chord he lands on another note within that chord.

Most of the improv was him playing with the college students

Really it was to nice to hear all this, the same mentality for a virtuoso saxophonist applies the same to a virtuoso guitarist(I won't name names) for the most part

Lastly one of Eric's favorite pieces to watch is this
