can someone PLEASE tell what the hell Eric Johnson's "circle picking " thing is ? I've seen that video of his where he tries to explain it many times but I still can't figure it out

Hi, I had the same problem. My fretting hand was fine but my arm, shoulders and neck would get really sore after about 3 hours of practice. Nowadays during practice when I sense a little too much tension I just take a little break do some stretching etc. My current problem is that my picking hand/arm gets burnt out rather quickly after some fast picking. PBs scalpel/sarod picking seems to help but my speed is still not quite where I want it to be.

A big thank you to jimiclaptoncarl.I think i'll be busy with that for a while. What I doing till now was I learnt all the names notes on the dotted frets and filled in the rest mentally. I think you're method is better

Ive been using "Functional Ear trainer" By Allan Benbassant http://www.miles.be/fet.html#fetbasic Its free and small . It comes in two versions. Basically a guessing game I sometimes play for hours. The advanced version is a little tough.

oh..ok.What got me kinda confused is that in one of his YT vids he comments :"I have no idea what Scales/modes I'm playing,I just follow the changes" ...or something similar.Thanks for the clarification. Btw, what is the "foot ruler" analogy that he mentions on his website somewhere?Has it got something to do with transposability ?

I found this on the internet: pYou might find it intersesting. Its some kinda technique this guy named Kirk Loragne teaches and he claims it helps him improvise over chord changes without any knowledge of scales or modes. Hes got some vids on YT also.Just another scam? maybe. But he claims Tommy Emmanuel CGP endorses it
