Hey, I looked back at your videos and you are doing great. It seems you have a good sense of time. Mixing chord work with scale work and trying to make it sound musical was where it got fun for me. Way to go dude!
I would start deathly slow at no more than 50-60 clicks per min.; for at least a few days, then go up by tens. It may be hard, but it will make things better. If you can articulate it slow at 60, it will just get easier as you raise the tempo. For me playing slow correctly is hard.Difficult is good, always.
You get around on the guitar great. My suggestion would be to slow down. (I know going slow sucks!) Tighten the low A string up to a B so you can articulate the lower strings more accurately for practice. Try rotating a sequence of 5-6 low notes out of the pattern and do just those. The higher notes seem to articulate better.
I did a video to start this topic off. I used a 70 bpm drum track. I used the key of E. I started basic and built up. If you are a beginner, keep it simple. Try to keep good time. The important thing is to post a video. Let's discuss and get better together.
I encourage you both to post a video showing your strongest work and I will do the same. We then can discuss our strong points and weaknesses. I think posting videos was Pebbers intention and the only way anyone can get a point of reference towards any positive discussion. (Especially Pebbers comments) Let's light it up!
Hey! What's up? I decided to make a quick video for you and hopefully help you along your PIMA journey. Hope this helps. I think you are on to something great!
Thanks Pebber for the in depth post. I'm not good with diminished anything. I haven't really practiced it.
So..There are inversions of a given dim. chord moving up the fret board. When I see a dim. chord in a piece of music, how do I know which one to play? Man, I got to get on top of this.
You only have part of the quote. ", and that music itself is the best teacher." It's in reference to some of the best guitarists being self taught.
An analogy... maybe the guitar is the dictionary and music is the language.
My guitar doesn't talk to me. But, it gives me dirty looks if I've been slacking lately.
About channeling sources: We work on dexterity and theory until it becomes second nature. It let's us play things in the moment without thinking about it. It just happens. Kind of like blinking.
The guitar has no message. It's just the platform between your soul an someone's ears and hopefully their soul. PHEWW!
Hey Paul, You could maybe plant your pinky at times so you get controlled movement across your hand i.e.(Controlled Thumb Movement and Knuckle Placement) rather than from your wrist. Your knuckles are then on an axis rather than pivoting around. Instead of moving your wrist to place your hand at different strings, you're pivoting left to right on your pinky. Then maybe, you can be responsible for the eBG and maybe the D string. I hope this isn't too confusing and I hope this helps. By the way, I like your playing.
Thanks! Joe Pass was a cord master. Speaking of cords: PB just put a video on YouTube called "Modern Chord Voicings". Man, I get what he's saying. Applying it in context seems remote, for now.
Hey Everyone, I decided to post Blessed Relief by Frank Zappa on the forum. It's in 3/4 time. I did this for my dad's birthday present. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks, Heyman
Hey Paul Kump, Thanks for the kind words! It wouldn't be too hard to learn. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be as fun as jamming with that dude on the megaphone.
