3-Finger Spiders and Index Finger

So I have exausted through all of the 4-finger spider exercises and have moved on to the 3-finger ones. Im on finger group 2-3-4 and i was wondering if I should let my index float over the strings or should I keep it planted on one of the strings? Or something totally different?

For practice purpose...keep it curved in.

For the F$%K of it...think out of the box and plant it on the first string..2nd string...ect.
Hit the note and try to Spider cleanly...allowing the note to ring as long as you can.

Yeah thats a really good idea, I'll defently give that a try. It reminds me of an exercise I found in Pumping Nylon, sort of a variation of the spider.

I do both...planting the index finger on the B string and also not planting it. Do both.
