Greetings--
I had not played since 2004 qpproximately, and started up again April 24th after looking at Pebber's sarod and Kenny Burrel scalpel explanation. After a month, I am noticing a "funny bone" type pain, where the tendon attaches to the lumpy part of the outer part of the elbow.
I am laying off picking for a few days and working on PIMA exercises. Have others had this? I am guessing it is because I had not played in so long and was able to sustain practice for hours and hours with tendons not up to it.
If the pain is common and you can play through it, let me know and I'll get back to plectrum work ASAP.
Al

Hi Al Lefty,
I can not advise you on this matter but i think this is an interesting subject because I have sometimes pain as well. On both arms my. My wrist on the fretting hand even i only slightly have the swan position and my lower arm where i feel something on my muscles which is difficult to explain. Maybe because i play a lot (average is 20 hours a week) and the arm is tired or i do something wrong. But i have never heard complains on my position when i post videos.
And i play for about for years and one year im following Pebbers lessons
So i will follow this thread to see if i can get some info here on it

Thanks--
I am very excited to be learning from Pebber. I am fixing some picking problems that plagued me for years. I can see that his excercises will develop all possible string to string movements after any number of notes. He thinks kind of like a mathematician, exploring all the permutations! I just wish I could practice as much as I want to without possibly building up an injury!
Thaks again, Al

Good point Al! I should do some streches as well specially when i Play a lot on a day. I have days that i play 6 hours and thats quite a lot of work for the hands.
I like the lessons from Pebber a lot too. I have learned quite a lot in the last year and improved my playing more that i thoughed it would be. I think also playing is a koind of sport for the hands so this goes together with sometimes some pain (correct me if im wrong)
Thanks for the tip i will watch those videos again to and start actually doing it a bit more and see if this helps.

think anyone who has put serious time in will feel some tiredness aches somewhere..
i had this for quite a while would just spend all night on left hand while right recovers and vice versa ..
if the pain dont go away go see a specialist ...

not sure i would recommend that ray i would keep to spending same amount of time on left and right.
in all modules.
will say when you been working on this stuff for a while the left hand is harder to keep the same level if you have a break.

I haven't seen Pebber's stretching video (I should watch it) but from the thumbnail it looks to me like he's doing a typical yoga stretching exercise for the wrists and hands. That is something good to look at for more information.
I spend a lot of time typing for work, and I have found the fourth finger of my right hand sticks out like I'm drinking tea and can get cramped. I'm therefore focusing on pulling it in while typing, and several times a day I'm doing a stretch where I pull all my fingers in to fully bent as far as they will go. It really stretches that hand. If I do both it is a great wake up for the hands.
It's important for people to remember with the guitar that it can actually be extremely strenuous on the hands, and they need to be kept in very good shape or you can seriously injure yourself. Stretching is important.
If you are feeling serious, persistent pain, you need to treat it just like a sports injury. Use ice to reduce swelling and heat to promote healing. If you have pain that doesn't go away you might need to see a doctor.
Basically, you need to be aware of the difference between pain from using muscles you've never used (this is just muscle building, like going to the gym), which will go away as you get stronger, and a real injury that should be taken seriously.

Here is the video i think your talking about and that we should all follow.
