Description My father owned a music business in Cleveland, Ohio for 17 years from 1973 until he closed show in 1990. I had many opportunities to get good at the guitar but as a young man growing up, I was distracted by other things. I did, however, learn to read music and even played the drums for a long time. I want to rekindle my interest in the guitar again, and came upon Pepper's videos just a couple days ago. I am impressed with his ruthless honesty about how other players "suck" and how one needs to practice scales and exercises over and over again until you are sick of them. I also admire his understanding of musical theory and structure. Too many musicians have this, "oh dude, I just play by ear... screw that theory and reading" mentality. Pepper seems to be the antithesis of this, which is why I want to take lessons from him. I am 45 years old but have lots of discipline; more now than ever. I am an avid runner who, in his forties, can outrun most people half my age in the marathon and half marathon (when I'm training rigorously that is). I know what it takes to get good at something. It takes hard work and dedication. Pepper had me laughing when he said how people would rather watch TV and play videos games rather than do the hard work of practicing. This is the kind of teacher I need. Latest activities Tags |
